48North Granddaddy Purple Review & Cannabis Photos

Grandaddy Purple from 49North is an indica strain known for its slightly purple buds, this strain has the ability to mesmerize you with its sweet, fruity flavour (or so they say).

Granddaddy Purple is an indica-dominant strain that the team at 48North grows indoors using LED lighting. It’s machined-trimmed, hand-groomed and has the potential for strong THC potency while keeping CBD levels to a minimum.

The flower is described by 48North as having a grape and berry aroma/flavour largely due to the terpene combination of beta-caryophyllene (peppery spice and wood), beta-pinene (dill, parsley, basil), alpha-pinene (pine, rosemary) and nerolidol.

Smell

We were very curious to see what 48North had up their sleeve with the Granddaddy Purple strain. The product arrived in a large brown paper bag with resealable top. Opening the package release a faint floral and woody aroma. It was surprisingly mild and possibly could have been improved with a terpene shield.

Appearance

Care has definitely been put into this bud. Well trimmed, vibrant orangey-brown hairs, light green leaves with a few dark green tips and a heavy trichome coverage are wonderful. However it was hard to notice any distinct purple tones (as the strain name suggests) and the plant was quite dry. Even handling the buds caused bits of leaf to flake off.

Flavour

Moisture helps maintain the plant’s terpenes which impact flavour and aroma so its no surprise here that the flavour was hard to notice. A light floral taste before fading to smooth wood. Honestly nothing “wow” or memorable about this one. I wonder if this was a missed opportunity for something amazing.

Experience

After smoking Granddaddy Purple you might notice a head-rush type buzz that is strong and starts as a mental haze but soon evolves into a state of clear mindedness. Overall it delivered a relaxed and chill buzz.

Summary
Granddaddy Purple from 48North has vibrant orangey hairs, light coloured buds and a heavy coating of trichomes. However it was surprisingly dry with a pretty mild smell and flavour. Overall it delivered a relaxed and chill buzz but feels like a missed opportunity with this legendary strain.

Since high school my friends and I have been recreational cannabis users so we decided to start Cannibros after legalization in 2019. We review and photograph the different products then share them on this website. The rating system we use is called “SAFE” which stands for Smell, Appearance, Flavour and Experience. Each category gets a score out of 10.
