Back Forty Animal Mints Review

Back Forty's Animal Mints is an indica-dominant hybrid described as having dense buds and a sweet minty flavour.

Back Forty Animal Mints is an indica-dominant hybrid that was created by crossing SinMint Cookies with Animal Cookies.

This strain is known for producing dense bright green buds with specks of purple throughout and a thick layer of frosty trichomes. Although not the highest we’ve seen, the total terpene content for Animal Mints is a respectable 1.73% with the dominant terpenes being Caryophyllene, Farnesene, Limonene, Linalool, and Humulene. All of this combines to create a sweet and minty flavour proflile when smoked. We reviewed Back Forty’s Wedding Pie recently and thought it was pretty good product for the price. So how does Animal Mints compare?

Smell

The product arrived in Back Forty’s silver foil bag with resealable zipper top. Given the strong aroma of their Wedding Pie strain we expected something similar, but when we opened the bag, it was very difficult to identify any smell. We literally sat there for a few minutes with our eyes closed trying to detect the primary smell. It took a solid minute or two before we picked up an extremely mild lemon smell, but even that was weak at best. Unfortunately this was one of those products where we could smell the bag more then the flower.

Appearance

Given the weak smell we didn’t know what to expect in terms of appearance. Luckily, Back Forty delivered a beautiful looking flower that if we’d seen first we’d have expected a strong aroma. These beautiful nugs are small to medium in size-wise and rock hard in density. A busy collage of orange, green, and purple makes the buds a wonderful canvas of nature. These pics truly bring the buds to life as it was difficult to truly appreciate its beauty with the naked eye. The only compliant real compliant was the dryness and flakiness which could be remedied with a moisture shield.

Flavour

Although the smell was mild at best, the flavour was much more enjoyable. Although we did not experience the minty taste described by Back Forty, we did get a clear crisp flavour that reminded us a bit of a weak lemonade flavour that isn’t too sour and had a dash of sweetness. However similar to the appearance, we feel the flavour could be greatly improved if the buds were not so dry.

Experience

Back Forty’s Animal Mints strain got off to a rocky start but finished strong. This product is listed at $22.95 for 3.5 grams with THC content of 18.4% which seems like a reasonable deal to us. However don’t expect this product to knock you out, we found it doesn’t hit hard which can actually be a nice change. It delivered a focused yet slight mental fog combined with a moderately strong and relaxing body vibe; this high doesn’t last long. If you’re an experienced smoker with a higher tolerance then this one might be too weak, but if you’re looking for a hybrid that does a decent job and sold for an affordable price then you might want to check this one out.

Since high school my friends and I have been recreational cannabis users so we decided to start Merry Jade after legalization in 2019. We review and photograph the different products then share them on this website. The rating system we use is called “SAFE” which stands for Smell, Appearance, Flavour and Experience. Each category gets a score out of 10.
