Spinach Atomic Sour Grapefruit is an exclusive indica-dominant strain that was created by crossing Chemdawg with SFV OG Kush.
Spinach describes the aroma and flavour profile as being a sharp citrus that reminds many users of freshly cut grapefruit. Combine this with it’s rare terpenes that include valencene, camphene, guaiol, fenchol and you can start to see why Spinach is so excited about his cultivar. The buds are suppose to be larger in size and very dense with a thick layer of sugary trichomes.
Like always this sounds wonderful, but how does Atomic Sour Grapefruit compare to other indica flowers offered by this brand like Spinach’s GMO Cookies or their Rockstar Kush?
Smell
Spinach’s Atomic Sour Grapefruit arrived in an industry standard white plastic container with security lid. We popped off the top and it became very obvious why this strain was named as such. The aroma is a strong fresh citrusy smell with a hint of sweetness that clearly denotes an aroma very similar to grapefruit juice. However Spinach does not include humidity packs inside their containers which makes us wonder how much stronger the aroma could be if the buds were fresher.
Appearance
We dumped out the containers and were pleased to see the contents were 2 medium to large sized buds. They were rock hard dense and also quite dry and flaky. However they were covered in a really thick trichome layer that blended nicely with the bright green colour tones mixed with orange hairs. The product looks great, but some points must be deducted due to the dryness… which is a common theme with this brand.
Flavour
Given the dry state of the buds we were not sure how flavourful this would be, however we were pleasantly surprised with it’s strong taste. If you like fresh grapefruits or grapefruit juice then you’ll probably be right at home with this strain. Every toke is a strong fresh citrusy taste with a hint of sweetness. But without beating a dead horse on this issue we did find the smoke itself was a bit harsh and likely would be smoother is Spinach would include a humidity pack.
Experience
Our bag was part of lot number 005979 and packaged on November 18, 2021. Overall Atomic Sour Grapefruit from Spinach offers a nice experience at a decent price. Listed as having 22.7% THC content and a price of $31.95 for 3.5 grams, we found this cultivar delivered a very strong high that leaned heavily into a heavy body feeling that was combined with a moderately strong mental mist creating some difficulty maintaining train of thought. However if you’re a fan of cannabis with a distinct citrus element and looking for a decently priced indica then you’ll probably enjoy this one. We liked it more then many of their other products including Spinach’s Sensi Star and would rank it just a tick under 8.

I find Spinach products reasonably priced .. I have 3 … yes dryness is an issue … i always purchase a Boveda for their products .. Cocoa Bomba GMO Cookies and Atomic Grapefruit .. the high does not last long .. but the price range .taste and smell is hard to beat.

Agree Gregg. Especially about the dryness of their products. It would be nice to seem them include some type of moisture shield as I don’t think it would cost them much.

Thanks for reviewing the Atomic Grapefruit Dave. Your review of it was so on point, made me think I wrote the review. Nevertheless, you are right that the buds are dry. In fact that statement could be made about a lot of LP’s that cheap out by not placing a humectant packs inside their bottles or vacuumed bags.
I do agree though that this is one of those strains where the name somewhat accurately describes the flavor to be expected. The scent of grapefruit is rather distinct with this cultivar, in spite of the dryness it doesn’t lose out on flavor or effects for that matter.
It’s probably one of the better mid-of-the-road products where there is actual value to behold. As in you’re not paying the standard $10/g and getting a mediocre experience. The high lasts about as long as any other strain at this potency.
Agreed that it would be nice if not only the Top-Shelf/Unicorn weed contained humectant packs and that this practice was adopted throughout the entire industry. IMO, LP’s are losing out on something so easy and simple that would improve their customer experience, not to mention that first impressions mean everything especially in this over saturated market.

Spinach is one of those brands where it seems they put effort into growing nice flower and for the most part the buds are decently trimmed but the product always arrives dry as a bone… which makes me wonder why go through all the trouble just to let it end up like that.
