RIFF DT81 (Super Lemon Haze) Review

DT81 by RIFF is their version of Super Lemon Haze which is a sativa-dominant strain with high THC potency potential.

DT81 is the product name RIFF sells their Super Lemon Haze strain under. RIFF DT81 is a sativa-dominant flower was created by crossing Lemon Skunk with Super Silver Haze

RIFF describes DT81 as having frosty light green buds with burnt orange hairs capped off with an even layer of trichomes covering the flower from top to bottom. This strain has a balanced mix of popular terpenes including terpinolene, caryophyllene, humulene, and beta-pinene… ultimately creating a flavour profile similar to citrusy, tart with sweet undertones.

We enjoyed RIFF’s Subway Scientist and RIFF’s Hell Cat 33… but how does their DT81 strain smoke?

Smell

DT81 arrived in a small sized plastic container with a lid that I always seem to struggle opening. However once we did get the lid off off we noticed the aroma of musky floral immediately followed by a much more prominent and piercing lemon citrus that tickled the nose. Towards the very end we also picked up the smallest hints of a faint earthy smell.

Appearance

Beautiful in its own right, this bud was unfortunately very dry even though it was well trimmed. The green tones are light olive in colour with very bright red hairs that look soft curly and really stand out against the light green background. Combine those with a sparkling layer of trichomes that seem to twinkle under the light and you have a good feeling for what DT81 looks like.

Flavour

We wonder if the ‘DT’ in DT81 stands for ‘distraction technique’ as this smoke starts off like the main lemon citrus aroma but seems to quickly change for the worse by introducing a strong harsh black pepper flavour that overtakes the lemon. This could be due to how dry the bud was when it arrived. Yay for some, nay for others, what were your thoughts – tell us below!

Experience

RIFF’s DT81 is a good sativa sold at a reasonable price. It delivers a fairly well-balanced high with mild mental effects which allow you to easily focus. At the same time it produces a more intense yet still enjoyable moderate body buzz like feeling goosebumps all over. However the dry nature of the buds made this one quite harsh to smoke. If we compare to other brands then we liked it more then Solei’s Super Lemon Haze by just a hair.

Summary
DT81 from RIFF is their take on the Super Lemon Haze strain. This product smells good and looks great, but the dry buds made the smoke harsh and not that enjoyable. However it still delivered a clean high with mild mental effects allowing the ability to easily focus while still enjoying a moderate body buzz that felt like goosebumps.

Since high school my friends and I have been recreational cannabis users so we decided to start Merry Jade after legalization in 2019. We review and photograph the different products then share them on this website. The rating system we use is called “SAFE” which stands for Smell, Appearance, Flavour and Experience. Each category gets a score out of 10.

  1. While I agree with the description of the flavor profile it is unfortunately came as quite a surprise from RIFF as I usually like the bulk of their strains. Having said that my batch had the overwhelming black pepper flavor that seems to dominate. So much so that that was really all I could taste. The buds were exceptionally dry, almost excessively so. I don’t like the porous plastic bottles or the fact that it looks machine trimmed because this rough handling has knocked off too much of the good stuff (the trichromes) although a modest amount can be spotted when you bust a bud open. Furthermore, the aroma is most certainly floral but dissipates quickly due to the dryness. The citrus notes didn’t really stand out for me either but that could also be cause by the dryness. Humectant packs almost be made a standard given the varied shelf life of dried Cannabis in general. It certainly helps separate the men from the boys. RIFF’s Super Lemon Haze is a disappointment in my opinion but it should provide an ample experience for somebody looking for a reasonably potent bud (mine was 19%) from an affordable price point. “Following the Green brick road”
